Restorative Therapy for Some Painful Medical Conditions

Restorative Therapy for Some Painful Medical Conditions

Pain is a distressing feeling that indicates that something’s wrong with the body. We all feel a degree of pain in the body from time to time. However, there’s a certain level that’s extremely uncomfortable. This is referred to as chronic pain. This form of pain is typically ongoing and may last longer than other less serious forms of pain.

Pain is simply the signal from the nervous system that indicates to the person that something’s wrong in the body, call 619-333-8114 for immediate diagnosis.

Pain can take different forms, and be found in different parts of the body or all over. What happens when we feel pain is that there’s a complex interaction between nerves in the body, the brain, and the spinal cord.

The most serious type of pain is chronic pain, and it can be debilitating to the point that it affects a person’s ability to perform regular activities. Some medical conditions that may lead to a high level of pain include;

  1. Kidney stones

Kidney stones cause a reduction in the volume of urine output and may occur due to infection, obesity, excess salt or sugar consumption, weight loss surgery, and bacterial infections. Typically, a kidney stone may not result in any form of pain unless it’s stirred around in the kidney or passed down the ureter. Severe pain occurs when this happens and is specific to the sides, back, and below the ribs. Lithotripsy shock-wave ultrasound is a form of restorative therapy for kidney stone treatment.

  1. After-surgery trauma

The recovery process from surgery may not be the easiest to go through. There are specific surgical procedures that cause more pain than others. For instance, a knee replacement surgery would hurt as a result of all the cutting through bone. Same as lung surgery because every breath will cause pain to the involved muscles. Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation may be useful for after-surgery pain management.

  1. Back Injury

This is one of the most agonizing pains, especially when it’s an acute disc herniation that may have been caused by heavy lifting. What happens is that the disc protrudes, bulges, and pushes on the nerve, causing severe pain in the leg area. Whichever form the back pain takes, it remains debilitating and uncomfortable. Massage therapy is an effective restorative treatment for back pain.

  1. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis can affect joints in the hips, knees, or shoulders areas. When this happens, every movement in the joints causes pain. In fact, joint osteoarthritis is one of the most common reasons why patients require restorative pain management in San Diego.

Osteoarthritis pain can make it difficult to move around, which can lead to other serious medical conditions like heart disease, anxiety, or depression. Therapeutic ultrasound is also useful for osteoarthritis.

  1. Degenerative disc disease

Back and neck degeneration go hand-in-hand with degenerative joint disease and spinal stenosis. These conditions make up the bulk of back and spinal conditions that people have. These pains are so bad that they keep the patients up at night, prevent them from engaging in activities of daily living, and also living a comfortable life. Electrical stimulation is a form of restorative therapy for degenerative disc disease.
